Sliding Scale-Red Barn Immersion
Our Red Barn Immersion Program is a one of a kind way to step into the world of horses and learn what it really means to care for them. This nonprofit program opens the barn doors to teens from all walks of life, even those with little or no horse experience. It blends hard work, friendship, and learning into something unforgettable.
Each day, students help care for our horses and other farm animals while learning the rhythm of barn life. They discover how every small task connects to the health and happiness of the herd. Alongside hands-on care, they receive both riding and ground instruction that deepens their skills and understanding. Traditional lessons alternate each week between time in the saddle and groundwork, allowing students to develop balance, communication, and partnership from the ground up.
Students in the program study and practice:
Horse care and maintenance
Farm and pasture management
Handling and riding
Teamwork and communication
Farrier and hoof care
First aid
Equine biology and behavior
Horse and rider biomechanics
Job and leadership skills
Because we include every part of horse care, students learn the why and how behind each task. They scrub buckets, clean stalls, maintain equipment, and feed the animals, all while learning how these simple daily habits build strong foundations for safe and skilled riding.
This is a physical, all-weather program. Wheelbarrows are heavy, hoses are stubborn, and horses still need care whether the rain is pouring or the sun is blazing. It takes grit, but it also brings incredible reward.
Immersion students enjoy experiences that go far beyond our weekly lessons. They receive extended riding and horsemanship time, daily mini lessons, horse leasing opportunities, practice rides, and access to special events like campouts, barbecues, and river days. They also build real friendships, gain valuable job experience, and grow into capable, compassionate caretakers.
The program is designed for ages 11-17. Because it involves hay, dust, and animal dander, it may not be suitable for those with severe allergies.

• A commitment of three days per week. Two days are dedicated to barn work and learning, and one day includes a traditional riding lesson with alternating ground and in-saddle focus.
